A Year of Growth
2025 was a special one as it pertained to my photography journey. I shot more photos this year than I ever had in previous years; shooting as many different sports, portraits, and trips as I could. I launched my new website, print store, blog, and really fine tuned my photographic style. All this to say, I feel very lucky to have this as a job and passion! I love being able to document and capture special moments for myself and the people around me.
I have many plans for this next year but first wanted to reflect on this one sharing some of my favorite photos from the year and the stories behind each of them. Some of these are on this list because of the meaning they have for me or the people I capture them for. The others help tell the story of my photographic journey and the progress I have made this year. Below are my favorite 10 photos from 2025:
10 - Monroe Boys Soccer
This was my fourth year coaching at MHS. I decided to become a volunteer with soccer giving up my role as JV coach to pursue photography more. The seniors from this year were the ones I started with when they were freshman and I couldn't have been more proud of the men they have become and what they accomplished this year competing in the WESCO 3A championship and making state. This particular photo was a rainy game at MHS with Cody putting a free kick into the box. The combination of the rain, spotlight, and being in black & white really makes this photo stand out.
9 - Cancun Wedding
This was a year of destination weddings going to ones in Atlanta, Phoenix, and the one featured here in Cancun. This one for my little brother and made it a point to bring my camera. As a wedding gift I decided to take a few shots of the ceremony and surprise them with photos the next day with this being the results. Was an awesome venue and day celebrating my little bro and his new wife. Congrats again!
8 - Senior Photos
I shot a total of 15 senior sessions which Is by far the most I have done yet in one summer. I love these sessions as I get to know each senior more while I capture these special moments for them. Each session was awesome but this one was especially special for me. Luke is a kid I have known for a long time being his older brother's Younglife leader for years. We went all over Snohomish featuring some of his favorite things including basketball, baseball, and some with his mom. We even got to recreate this photo which was one of mine from my senior year!
7 - Barclay Hike
One of my favorite hikes in our area during one of the best times of the year. This summer, Jack, Simon and I decided to do a day hike to Barclay to enjoy the lake, ride paddle boards, and get some photos. The water was as low as I have ever seen it there and it was busy as ever but to get away from the busyness that life can be is always a gift. Simon was looking for good spots to fish and I happened to capture this moment from across the lake.
6- SHS Girls Soccer
I had the privilege of being the team photographer for the SHS girls soccer team this year. I love long term projects especially when I get to cover my own high school and some of my favorite people. I loved being around this team as they love to compete winning the 3A WESCO Championship but also love to support one another even more. If you spent any amount of time around them this was clear and made them special. Some of my favorite moments were when they would celebrate with each other after a goal hyping each other up! This was one of many of those moments.
5 - 4th of July at Rainer
Early on the 4th of July, we decided to do a sunrise hike to High Rock Lookout near Mt. Rainer before it closed for renovations. We got there early but it seemed as though many other people had the same idea we did. I hiked up to the top just before sunrise taking in the views while catching our breathes. At the top people were posing with the flag when I snapped this photo of Rainer in the background. Had a great time but excited to go back when there are less people there.
4 - Malibu
One of my favorite places in the world, Malibu. I was up there this summer leading for Snohomish Valley Younglife and taking photos. It's hard to take a bad photo up there and it was hard to choose just one from the trip. I woke up early one morning for sunrise before anyone else was awake to have some devotional time all the while taking in God's masterpiece. The way to sun was hitting the nearby mountains was something to behold and even photos like this don't do it justice, doesn't mean I can't try though.
3 - MHS Boys Basketball
Another long term project of mine was following the MHS Boys Basketball team during the 24-25 season. What an incredible season they had really pushing each other to be excellent on and off the court. Being around the team you could tell how much they played for one another and the family that had been formed. It all culminated in a state run where they won the 3A WESCO championship against a tough Edmonds-Woodway team. This was the celebration of that moment and all the hard work to get there.
2 - Snohomish UP
A last second trip down to Snohomish with some of my Younglife people led to my second favorite photo! Every summer there is constantly different events with this one featuring a concert with many hot air balloons in the background. They would light up based on the music which made for a unique atmosphere, one that makes small towns like Snohomish special. Luckily had my camera with me and saw a father enjoying the balloons with his son giving UP vibes. Might have to do a long term project covering this town. :)
1 - Oregon Surf
If you know me, you know I love the Oregon coast. It's one of my favorite places in the world and I can't get enough of it. I am always itching to get back so I planned a trip to visit Connor and Chloe at school. I knew on the way back home I would take the long way home and go to the coast. Connor joined me as we hit up a few spots along the coast stopping at Short Sand Beach. We gave our best effort at skim boarding which didn't go so well but there was a few surfers at the beach heading out to hit the waves. I was lucky enough to catch one walking out to the water and captured my favorite photo of this year.
